Description

This homemade chai latte recipe combines sweet honey, warming spices, and steamed milk to create a comforting and aromatic drink perfect for chilly days. Easy to prepare from scratch with just a few ingredients, it captures the cozy essence of traditional chai tea in a creamy, soothing latte.

Ingredients

Scale

Chai Concentrate

  • 2 - 3 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 chai tea bags

Milk

  • 2 cups milk of choice

Instructions

  1. Make the Chai Concentrate: Add the honey and ground spices into a heat-proof jar or measuring cup. Pour the boiling water over the mixture and whisk well until the honey is fully dissolved.
  2. Steep the Tea: Add the chai tea bags to the mixture and let steep for at least 15 minutes to develop rich flavor.
  3. Store or Use Immediately: If not drinking right away, allow the concentrate to cool completely, then refrigerate for up to 2 to 3 days. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  4. Heat and Froth the Milk: Warm the milk gently on the stove until simmering. For best texture, froth 1 cup of milk at a time using a milk frother if available.
  5. Assemble the Latte: Divide the warmed or frothed milk evenly between two mugs. Top each with an equal amount of chai concentrate. Stir gently and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by varying honey or syrup amount to your taste.
  • Use your preferred type of milk, such as cow’s milk, almond, oat, or soy milk.
  • Frothing the milk enhances texture, but is optional.
  • Concentrate can be refrigerated for a few days to prepare in advance.
  • For a stronger chai flavor, steep tea bags longer or add extra spices.
