Description

Grilled Sausage With Peppers and Onions is a flavorful and easy-to-make dish featuring Italian sausages cooked to perfection alongside charred bell peppers and sweet onions. Ideal for a quick weeknight meal or casual entertaining, this recipe combines smoky, savory sausage with tender, grilled vegetables for a satisfying and classic combination.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausages

  • 6 mild or hot Italian sausages

Vegetables

  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 Vidalia or yellow onions

Seasonings and Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill and Grill Pan: Heat the grill to medium-high heat and place a grill pan on the grill. Allow the grill pan to heat for approximately 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and good searing.
  2. Prepare Vegetables: While the grill heats, core and slice the red and green bell peppers into strips. Peel and slice the Vidalia or yellow onions. Transfer the sliced vegetables into a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Toss to evenly coat the vegetables.
  3. Cook Sausages: Place the Italian sausages on the hot grill pan. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, turning occasionally until they are slightly charred on the outside and fully cooked through. Once done, remove the sausages and place them on a plate. Tent the plate with foil to keep warm.
  4. Grill Vegetables: Add the prepared peppers and onions to the grill pan. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, tossing occasionally as the edges become charred and the vegetables soften. Once cooked to your preference, remove the vegetables from the grill pan.
  5. Serve: Serve the grilled sausages with the charred peppers and onions. This dish pairs well with toasted rolls or your favorite side dishes for a complete meal.

Notes

  • This dish makes an excellent quick weeknight dinner or casual entertaining option.
  • Choose mild or spicy Italian sausages based on your heat preference.
  • Use Vidalia onions for a sweeter, milder onion flavor, but yellow onions work well too.
  • You can serve the sausages and veggies on crusty toasted rolls for an easy sandwich style meal.
  • Red pepper flakes can be added for extra heat if desired.
