Description

Tender and flavorful Crock Pot Baby Back Ribs cooked low and slow until fall-off-the-bone tender, finished with a tangy barbecue sauce under the broiler for a perfect char and smoky taste.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Ribs

  • 2 racks baby back ribs (about 3 to 4 pounds)
  • 1 onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons rib rub (or homemade rib rub in the notes)

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (of choice)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ribs, Remove the silver membrane from the back of the ribs to ensure tenderness and better flavor absorption. Rub both front and back of the ribs evenly with the spice mixture or store-bought rib rub.
  2. Load the slow cooker, Place the sliced onion, chopped garlic, water, and the seasoned ribs into the slow cooker, arranging ribs comfortably to fit without overcrowding.
  3. Slow cook the ribs, Cook ribs on high for 4 hours or on low for 8 hours until they are fork tender and easily pull apart.
  4. Preheat the broiler, While the ribs are finishing cooking, set your oven broiler to high to get it hot and ready for the final step.
  5. Make the sauce, In a bowl, combine ketchup, chili sauce, and barbecue sauce thoroughly to create a rich glaze.
  6. Broil for finish, Brush the cooked ribs generously with the sauce mixture, then place them under the broiler for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce chars slightly and caramelizes, enhancing flavor. Watch closely to prevent burning.

Notes

  • Removing the silver skin membrane from ribs is crucial for tender results.
  • Use your favorite rib rub or make a homemade spice blend for customization.
  • Broiling adds a delicious caramelized finish; alternatively, you can grill ribs briefly if preferred.
  • Ideal for busy weeknights or easy weekend meals as the slow cooker does most of the work.
  • Leftover ribs can be reheated and brushed with extra sauce for even more flavor.
