Description

These Buffalo Cauliflower Wings are a delicious vegan appetizer perfect for game day or any snack craving. The cauliflower florets are coated in a crispy batter, baked to golden perfection, and tossed in a tangy, spicy vinegar-based hot sauce with a touch of maple syrup for sweetness. Served with a cooling ranch dip, these wings are both flavorful and healthy.

Ingredients

Scale

Cauliflower Wings

  • 1 medium head cauliflower
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened vegan milk (any kind)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

Buffalo Sauce

  • 1/2 cup vinegar based hot sauce (such as Franks hot sauce or any kind)
  • 1 tablespoon vegan butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons maple syrup

Cooling Ranch Dip

  • Prepared ranch dip of your choice (vegan if preferred)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cauliflower: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the cauliflower into bite-sized florets and set aside.
  2. Make Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, vegan milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Coat Cauliflower: Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Then roll it in the panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake Cauliflower Wings: Bake the coated cauliflower in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then flip each floret and bake an additional 12 minutes until they are golden and crispy.
  5. Prepare Buffalo Sauce: While cauliflower bakes, melt vegan butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in hot sauce, garlic powder, and maple syrup. Mix well and warm gently, then remove from heat.
  6. Toss Wings in Sauce: Once the cauliflower wings are baked and crispy, transfer them to a large bowl and pour the buffalo sauce over them. Toss gently to coat evenly.
  7. Serve: Serve the buffalo cauliflower wings hot with a side of cooling ranch dip for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, spray the coated cauliflower lightly with oil before baking.
  • You can adjust the amount of hot sauce and maple syrup to control the heat and sweetness of the buffalo sauce.
  • Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs to make the recipe gluten-free if needed.
  • The cooling ranch dip can be homemade or store-bought, and vegan versions are widely available.
  • These wings are best eaten fresh but can be reheated in the oven to restore crispiness.
