Description

This Creamy Garlic Shrimp recipe features succulent shrimp cooked in a buttery garlic sauce enriched with vegetable stock, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. Perfectly seasoned and garnished with fresh parsley, it makes a quick and indulgent meal best served over rice, mashed potatoes, or polenta.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (26 g)
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, deveined (after peeling) (450 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup vegetable or chicken stock (180 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese (43 g)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Shrimp: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Add the raw shrimp and season with salt and black pepper. Cook the shrimp until they turn opaque and are cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side depending on size. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the Sauce: Using the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Pour in the vegetable or chicken stock and bring to a simmer. Let it reduce by about half to concentrate the flavor, around 3-4 minutes. Stir in the heavy cream and continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 4-5 minutes. Add the grated parmesan cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  3. Combine: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss them in the creamy garlic sauce to coat evenly. Taste and adjust seasoning with extra salt or pepper if needed. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
  4. Serve: Serve the creamy garlic shrimp immediately over cooked rice, creamy mashed potatoes, or soft polenta for a comforting and elegant meal.

Notes

  • Use jumbo shrimp for the best texture and flavor, though smaller shrimp work fine as well.
  • For extra depth, substitute half the stock with white wine during sauce preparation.
  • Prepare side dishes in advance to serve the shrimp hot and fresh.
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese enhances the flavor better than pre-grated.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop, adding a splash of water or stock to loosen the sauce if it thickens too much.
